| An Introduction To Stanhope-Wedgwood |
|
Stanhope-Wedgwood is a partnership of two farms located approximately 45 minutes drive apart on Southern Vancouver Island. Stanhope Dairy Farm Ltd. is owned by the Rendle Family and has been in operation since 1917. Wedgwood Holsteins Ltd. is owned by the Wikkerink family, and has been in operation since 1961. The area is very scenic, with tourism being one of the major industries. The climate is typically mild, and with irrigation, we can grow 4 or 5 crops of good quality grass for silage and hay, as well as outstanding silage corn. Both farms generally purchase some alfalfa hay to supplement their TMR. The Stanhope-Wedgwood partnership began in 1987 with one cow and today numbers approximately 200 head. The purpose is to develop and market high producing, outstanding conformation holsteins. We are convinced that these kind of cattle will always be marketable. Stanhope-Wedgwood markets live cattle and embryos on the domestic and international scene. Once of our main promotions being the shows - both local and as far away as the World Dairy Expo and the Royal Winter Fair. There is no better place to compare your breeding program than the show ring. The Canadian Holstein has been the source of longevity and correct type for many years thanks to the tremendious 'cow men' of herds like Roybrook, Hanoverhill, Youelldene and Acme, which provides the cow families and sires that gave us the Unique Canadian Holstein. We are convinced as breeders that we can not stand still, and as a result, continually strive to improve by using proven cow families that are consistent. "We hope as you scan this website, you will find our commitment to high production, outstanding type and longevity to be very evident."
